A Curtis Samuel strike, last Thursday afternoon at the Victoria Park, earned the KPS the honour of lifting the title over their opponents – the Kingstown Government School.

In the process, the Kingstown Government suffered their first loss, as they had come through the preliminary phase, as well as the quarter and the semi-finals unbeaten.

Samuel was the toast of the day, as he did not only register the lone goal, but was named Player of the Final.

He also copped the award for the most goals in the competition – a total of three.

Thursday’s final was set up, after the KPS had ousted the Questelles Government one -nil, and the Kingstown Government had beaten the Cane End Government, two goals to nil.

Cane End Government went to take the third place also last Thursday, without a sweat, as the Questelles Government did not show up for the third place consolation play-off.

Nineteen schools participated in the festival, which saw four zones being contested.

The two top places in each zone advanced to the quarter-finals, with the winners making it through to the semi-finals.

The last competition was staged just over a decade ago, when Kingstown Prep also won.

A one-nil triumph again did the trick then over the Layou Government School. (RT)
