However, despite the many calls for its return after an absence of almost a decade, only 19 schools replied in the affirmative.

However, organisers have decided to hold a festival type competition.

The Nine-A-Side set-up sees the use of smaller goals and each school must have a female player on the field or play with eight.

Additionally, the matches are of 40 minutes duration.

Revival kicked in last Thursday morning at the Grammar School Playing Field with Zone one, which includes the Kingstown Preparatory, the Kingstown Government, the Lodge Village Government, the Bequia Anglican Primary and the Canouan Government.

In matches played, Kingstown Preparatory and Kingstown Government drew nil-nil; Canouan Government and Lodge Village Government drew one goal each, while Bequia Anglican defeated Canouan Government, one goal to nil; Kingstown Government edged out Lodge Village one-nil and Kingstown Preparatory beat Bequia Anglican, 2-nil.

Kingstown Prep then outplayed Canouan Government 4-nil, but was beaten by Lodge Village one-nil. Canouan forfeited their other match to Kingstown Government.

The other zones will be convened this week.

In Zone three, set for the Campden Park Playing Field are the Clare Valley Government, Du Bois Government, Questelles Government and Layou Government, while Zone four at the Chili Playing Field, involves the Langley Park Government, Owia Government, Greiggs Primary, Sandy Bay Anglican and Cane End Government.

Zone two, held at the Keartons Playing Field, saw the Barrouallie Anglican, the Barrouallie Government, the Rose Hall Government and the Chateaubelair Methodist seeking honours.

In results from that zone, Rose Hall edged out Barrouallie Government 1-nil; Chateaubelair beat Rose Hall also 1-nil and Barrouallie Government defeated Barrouallie Anglican by the same margin.

The first and second places in the four zones will advance to the quarter-finals.

Thereafter, the winners head to the semi-finals, with the grand finale set for November 14, at a venue to be announced. (RT)
