When the roll was called for the competition’s rebirth last weekend at the Chilli hard court, Trail Blazers, Confidential Girls and Stinger Girls from Owia, Langley Park Combine and LP Girls, both of Langley Park, Sea Operations Nar Fren Dem of Greiggs, Overland, and G Force Girls of Dickson all assured their participation.

Head of the North East Netball Committee Vasha Adams stated that it was the prolonged absence of a tournament in the area that motivated them to get involved, in an effort heighten greater interest in the sport.

She noted that despite wanting to develop players from the North East area, her committee has no restriction in teams engaging the services of established players who are from outside the locale.

Apart from Adams, the committee includes Rosmund Griffith – treasurer; Roger Henry – secretary, Johnny Noel – public relations officer and committee members Paula Blake and Debbie Jordan.

When competition got off in earnest, Langley Park Combine beat Confidential Girls 47-19 and LP Girls stopped G Force Attackers 33-23.

Matches in the competition are carded for Saturday and Sunday.(RT)
