Stubbs, North East – three from three in Masters’ Cricket

Stanley Browne Stubbs and new entrant North East Stars made it three from three last weekend in the SVG Masters Twenty/20 Cricket Competition.{{more}}

Stubbs defeated St Vincent Cooperative Bank Ptani by five wickets on Saturday at the Park Hill Playing Field, which has become a happy hunting ground for them.

Ptani reached 126 for 7 off 20 overs; Cassius Welcome scored 46 and Westmore Campbell – 25.

Leon Samuel took 3 for 21, bowling for Stubbs, who replied with 132 for 5 off 16.3 overs.

The in form Christopher Campbell struck 37 and Leon Samuel 23.

Isaac Haywood, with 3 for 18, was Ptani’s most successful bowler.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, North East outdid Kirk DaSilva’s La Croix’s 137 runs, also at the Park Hill venue.

North East posted 216 for 9 off 20 overs, with Deighton Butler striking 11 sixes and five fours in his knock of 98 not out and Peter Campbell hitting 36.

Edmundo Shoy with 3 for 20 and Wendell Parris, 3 for 28, were the main wicket takers for La Croix.

La Croix made 79 for 6 off 20 overs; Benedict Phillips was 24 not out.

Leroy Brewster took 2 for 17, bowling for North East.

Also notching wins were Computec Belfongo, RSVG Police and Sion Hill.

Belfongo overcame Cato’s Heavy Equipment Glamorgan by six wickets on Sunday at Park Hill.

Batting first, Glamorgan scored 80 for 8 off 20 overs, Samuel Richards top scoring with 36 not out.

Aaron Bascombe, Junior Bacchus and Samuel Holder took two wickets each. In response, Belfongo made 85 for 4 off 13.3 overs; Elton Williams led the way with 57.

RSVG Police got past Henny Penny by 14 runs on Sunday at Arnos Vale One.

RSVG Police scored 120 for 8 off 20 overs, with Gosnel Cupid 30, Jeffrey Laborde 25 and Trevor Bailey 23.

Bowling for Henny Penny, Henny Charles grabbed 3 for 8 and Lyden Patrick 2 for 19.

Henny Penny in reply, stopped at 106 for 8 off 20 overs. Austin Lawrence made 21.

Elvis Browne had 3 for 9 and Samuel Francis 2 for 25, bowling for RSVG Police.

And, Sion Hill defeated Carlos James North Leeward by 67 runs, also at Arnos Vale One.

Sion Hill on the back of Bill Edwards’ 76 and Keyon Jack’s 55, reached 165 for 4 off 20 overs.

Conrad Ryan had the best bowling figures of 2 for 16 for North Leeward, who was restricted to 98 for 8 off 20 overs. Five matches are carded for this weekend.

On Saturday at Buccament, LOG Enterprises Kingstown meet Henny Penny from 2 p.m.

On Sunday from 10 a.m., Pastures and Sion Hill play at Buccament and from 2 p.m. at that same venue, Carlos James North Leeward face Metrocint General Insurance/Sagicor Richards Masters.

At Park Hill also on Sunday, Bequia and North East clash from 10 a.m., and from 2 p.m., Stanley Browne’s Stubbs play Kirk Da Silva’s La Croix.(RT)
