Vincy Heat on Guadeloupe mission, en route to finals
Vincy Heat â St Vincent and the Grenadines senior football outfit â begins its quest to reach the final stage of the Caribbean Football Unionâs competition from tomorrow Wednesday in Guadeloupe.{{more}}
The Vincentiansâ first test will be versus the host from 7 p.m. Before that match, in the first of the double headers, Martinique and Curacao meet at 5 p.m.
Vincy Heatâs second encounter is on Friday against Martinique and their third and final match is on Sunday. Both are set for 5 p.m. kick-offs.
The 19-member team assembled in Guadeloupe includes home-based players Dwaine Sandy, Azhino Solomon, Darren Hamlett, Emerald George, Jarrel Mc Master, Kyle Edwards, Roy Richards, Tevin Slater, Vasbert Ledger, Shorn Lowman, along with recalled players Shemmol Trimmingham, Shandell Samuel and Winslow Mc Dowall.
Nazir Mc Burnette, Oalex Anderson and Ronsil Badnock, who are on loan contracts with Antiguan clubs, will join the team.
Kevin Francis, is also on loan in Antigua and Barbuda, returned recently for a family bereavement and travelled to Guadeloupe with the home-based players on Monday, while Cornelius Stewart, who is based in Finland, was set to jet across to Guadeloupe to be part of the nineteen.
Omitted from the team which qualified last month from the Group Five qualification round in Antigua and Barbuda are Kenyon Lynch, Danroy Edwards and Jahvin Sutherland.
The management team comprises Cornelius Huggins â head coach; Wesley Charles â assistant coach; Keith Ollivierre Ââ technical director; Othneil Douglas â manager; and Dwight Roberts â executive member of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation.
St Vincent and the Grenadines made it to this phase after finishing second to Antigua and Barbuda in September.
The Vincentians recorded a one nil win over the Dominican Republic, and defeated Anguilla 4-0, but were beaten by the host 2-1.
The other groups being contested feature Antigua and Barbuda, the Dominican Republic, St Lucia and host Trinidad and Tobago and stashed in group seven, while Haiti hosts Barbados, St Kitts and Nevis and French Guiana in Group eight.
The three group winners and their runners-up advance to the finals, to meet automatic finalists â host Jamaica and defending champion â Cuba.
The four top finishers in the CFU final will gain places in the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup in the USA.(RT)
