Masters Cricket bowls off in excitement

One tied match and a close finish characterized the opening salvos of the 2014 SVG Masters Cricket competition last Sunday at the Arnos Vale One Playing Field.{{more}}

It took a Super over to separate St Vincent Cooperative Ptani and Cato’s Heavy Equipment Glamorgan, after the main encounter finished in a tie.

Glamorgan scored 131 for 6 off their 20 overs, with Samuel Richards hitting 41 and Gersham Dick 35.

Westmore Campbell, with 3 for 27, was Ptani’s most successful bowler.

Despite Isaac Haywood’s 49, Ptani ended on 131 for 4 off their 20 overs, to send the match into a single over eliminator. Godfrey Brewster picked up 2 for 23, bowling for Glamorgan.

In the Super over, Ptani scored 13 for one wicket, but Glamorgan’s reply was only 5, also for the loss of one wicket.

But before that nervy excitement, Kirk DaSilva’s La Croix defeated Bequia Cricket Association Masters by 15 runs.

La Croix totalled 165 for 6 off their allotted 20 overs. with Wendell Parris at 28 and Ellsworth Francis 26.

Sylvan Glynne took 2 wickets for 22, bowling for Bequia Cricket Association Masters, who in turn scored 150 all out off 19.4 overs.

Ashley Cordice complied 55 and Vernon Williams was 40 not out, as their innings fell away in the latter stages.

Elson Crick took 4 for 36, to undermine Bequia’s resilience.(RT)
