Both emerged from last Saturday’s semi-finals as victors over Limehill Knight Riders and Shanty Town Ballblazers respectively.

Hillsiders overpowered the potent Riders’ team by five wickets. Batting first, Riders could only make 87 in 14.5 overs, with Gosnel Cupid (19), the top scorer. Jeremy Layne was the pick of Hillsiders bowling, taking 4 for 34; Sunil Paul had 3 for 23 and Kenroy Peters 2 for 10.

Hillsiders then made a mountain of the small score, but a sixth wicket stand between Man of the Match Kenroy Peters, 38 not out, and Junior Adams, 7 not out, which yielded 59 runs, saw them recovering from 29 for 5.

The two saw the final total of 88 for 5 reached. Amread Bobb – 3 for 15 and Norland Davis 2 for 18, were Knight Riders’ most successful bowlers.

Before then, though, Riverside Warriors got the better of Shanty Town Ballblazers by 10 runs, in a match reduced to 15 overs per side.

Shanty Town Ballblazers, who started with eight players, won the toss and decided to insert the opposition.

Riverside Warriors posted 179 for 7 in 14.4 overs. Donwell Hector struck 32, and Kenyon Davis and Kevin Samuel both hit 24.

Javil Harry returned 3 for 42 and Calty Phillips 2 for 37, bowling for Ballblazers.

At their turn at the crease, Ballblazers’ innings stopped at 169 off 14.1 overs after being well set at 141 for 3 after 11 overs. This was mainly thanks to a whirlwind innings from all-rounder Calty Phillips, who belted 55. Other recognisable contributions came from Roneke James, 44, and Ricky Richards, 24. Man of the Match Kevin Samuel took 3 for 22, including a telling maiden in the penultimate over, and Kenyon Davis had 3 for 27.

Before Sunday’s final, Ballblazers and Knight Riders will battle for third spot.
