But this time around, the new batch has been the recipient of specialised training in teaching paraplegics.

The training was conducted last November by Swiss coach Georg Silbertschmidst, but the 18 coaches were then required to put in 30 hours of coaching before they could be certified.

The course, which was supported by Olympic Solidarity, was organised under the auspices of the ITTF Development Programme, in conjunction with the Latin American Table Tennis Union.

The training programme brought together several current and former national players, as well as others who play the sport mainly for recreational purposes, but who have a deep commitment to table tennis.

Three of the successful certified level one coaches in Roland Bowman, Kavir Gaymes and Rueben Johnson, were last Saturday presented with the passport to teach the sport to others.

According to a release from the St Vincent and the Grenadines Table Tennis Association, “These coaches are now able to coach any part of the world with these certificates.”(RT)
