The athletes – Damien Dublin, Joseph Carrington, Deighton King, Kamal Hunte and Marlon Gibson – left St Vincent on Tuesday, September 26, for the Central American country, where they will participate in a team competition with 15 other countries from the sub-region.

Gibson, the team’s manager, told SEARCHLIGHT that he expects the team to face stiff competition during the qualifiers, but he believes that they would give a good account of themselves.

“The team is comprised of experienced guys; we’ve been all over: Venezuela, Commonwealth Games, plus we have a former national champion; we have Kamal Hunte who has been in Trinidad and has been doing well there in some local competitions there….

“It’s going to be a tough field of players, but I expect the guys to go out and do their best, we have a good team and I expect nothing but the best from them,” Gibson remarked.

The team is coached by Carrington, with King listed as the team captain.

Only eight countries will move on from the qualifiers for the CAC games, scheduled for Veracruz, Mexico, in November this year.
