When this year’s edition opened last Sunday afternoon at the Dauphine Playing Field, Simple Boys champed the Ball-o-rama segment, which for the first time, was sponsored by Collin John and Arnold and Ezekiel Woods.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, John noted that the trophies and cash awards were in honour of two residents of the area, Atneil Tash and Roger Ross, who are both deceased.

John said that the idea to make such an undertaking was hatched while he was on a visit to the USA recently.

Apart from trophies and cash prizes for the first, second, third and fourth places and the challenge trophy, there are prizes for the most runs and most wickets recorded on the day.

The elimination ball-o-rama, though, only saw nine of the possible 20 teams participate in the competition.

This relatively poor showing by the teams was addressed by head of the organizing committee Ashford Wood, as well as Product Development officer of the National Lotteries Authority Anthony Dennie, who both expressed dissatisfaction at the turnout of teams.

Unperturbed by the absence of others, Simple Boys, in the title decider, overcame E Z Woods Toppers to claim the first place cash award of $600, with the second place earning $350.

Gomea Bombers took the third place $200, with CGM Novice and Toppers having to share the fourth place of $150.

Prizes won in the ball-o-rama will be distributed during the presentation ceremony at the end of the league competition. (RT)
