National Senior Squash Championship climaxes

The SVG Squash Association held its Annual Senior Squash Championship at the National Squash Centre, 14 to 16 May. Some 24 players battled for local titles.{{more}}

In the Men’s Over 50 age group, Telbert Samuel defeated Keith Boyea 11-8, 11-3, 13-11, with Boyea settling for second, winning by default over Perry Defreitas.

Men’s Over 40 was won by James Bentick; he defeated Dominic Ross 11-4, 11-5, 11-2; then in the finals, he defeated Telbert Samuel 11-3, 11-2, 11-4.

Samuel took 2nd spot and Dominic Ross 3rd.

Women’s Over 40 Sherian Slater defeated Deidre Myers 11-5, 11-5, 11-3 and in the finals, in a keenly contested match, defeated Greta Primus 11-9,10-12,13-11,4-11, 11-8.

Primus secured second place by defeating Myers 11-9, 11-7, 11-7.

Women’s A was won by Greta Primus, who defeated Thandi Myers 11-8, 11-6, 11-4 and Tessa Shallow-King 11-6, 11-9, 11-5.

King battled Myers for the second spot, registering the longest game and match played over the course of the national championships, 22-20, 11-8, 6-11, 9-11, 11-9.

Women’s B went to Alana McMaster, who defeated Jada Ross 11-9, 9-11, 6-11, 11-6, 11-8. Ross secured second, as both Lauryn Doyle and Rocheal Robertson defaulted.

Men’s B title went to Omari Wilson, who defeated Kai Bentick 12-10, 11-8, 11-7.

Bentick came second, defeating Telbert Samuel 11-7, 11-9, 13-11.

Samuel defeated Mikal Quashie 11-6, 11-5, 11-4, taking 3rd place.

Men’s A saw Jules Snagg securing this title for four consecutive years.

He defeated Kevin Hannaway in straight sets 11-9, 11-5, 11-8, and in the finals, easily secured the title, winning Othniel Bailey 11-3, 11-2, 11-9.

Bailey took second by defeating Kevin Hannaway 12-10, 6-11, 11-5, 11-9.

Hannaway took 3rd by defeating Eshwan Adams 11-4, 11-3, 11-0.

Andrez Bascombe took the consolation Men’s A.

SVG will host the National Lotteries Authority’s Senior OECS Championship 5th – 8th June at the National Squash Centre.
