Victoria Village jump ahead in SEDI cricket competition

Victoria Village Future Stars have taken the first leap in the 2014 South East Development Inc. Inter Community T/20 Cricket Competition.{{more}}

When this year’s edition got started last Sunday afternoon at the Stubbs Playing Field, it was a walk in the park for Victoria Village over Rate Your Boys Challengers.

Featuring several players who are top performers in the premier division of the national cricket setup, Victoria Village posted 200 for 6 from their 20 overs.

Their innings was inflated by Jerron “Chubby” John, who slammed 86 not out, laced with five fours and four sixes. Gidron Pope compiled 35, before he gifted his wicket.

Bowling for Challengers, Walford Ambris with his Sunday afternoon lollipops, trapped 3 for 49 and Lawrence Kydd 2 for 31.

In their turn, Rate Your Boys Challengers provided little resistance and were dismantled for 55 in 16.3 overs.

Gidron Pope followed up with the ball, taking 4 for 8 and Ray Charles – 2 for 17.

Others vyeing for title honours are Third World, Glamorgan, Top Guns, Church Road Connections, Panthers and defending champions Mix Up Moods.

Preceding last Sunday’s match, there was the opening ceremony which heard remarks from area representative Frederick Stephenson, Senator Luke Browne, president of SEDI Rosita Snagg, as well as representative of the Sports Department Goaland Greaves and manager of the National Sports Council Cecil Charles.

Two matches were set for yesterday, May 1, between Rate Your Boys Challengers and Panthers and Glamorgan against Mix Up Moods.(RT)
