Vincentians invade Barbados Division One football set-up

While the current Hairoun Beer National Inter-Community League Football championship has been robbed of some of the better talents, the Barbadian football public is lapping them up in their set-up.{{more}}

A host of Vincentian footballers are plying their craft with Rendezvous FC in the Barbados Football Association Banks Division One campaign, and as they have done in previous years, form the crux of the team.

Rendezvous, promoted after last year’s outstanding returns, having won all 21 matches played in Division Two which earned them the right to contest Division One, has so far continued their form with two wins in the 2014 edition.

In their first outing, Rendezvous stopped Porey Springs 2-1. Vincentian Romano Snagg scored both goals.

Rendezvous FC, reports say, then mesmerised Clarke Hill defence to hand them a 6-1 thumping, with five of the goals coming from the boots of Vincentians.

On the score sheet were Shandell Samuel and Myron Samuel, who both struck braces and Snagg netted the other.

Myron Samuel netted both goals in Rendezvous’ 2-1 win over St John’s.

Other Vincentians on the Rendezvous roster are Damal Francis, Emerald George and Chad Balcombe.

Indications are that other Vincentians are being pursued as Rendezvous quests for more silverware.

Rendezvous in 2013 won the island-wide Knockout title as they played unbeaten in the elimination competition.

In the process, Rendezvous, then a Division Two unit, side-stepped and ousted Premier Division clubs Notre Dame, Pride of Gall Hill, and Brittons Hill, who received a 6-1 licking in the final.

Then, Shandell Samuel carted off two individual titles – the Best Striker and the Most Outstanding Player awards.

Rendezvous scored an incredible 37 goals, with Shandell Samuel scoring 15 of them.

Rendezvous is seeking to continue their upward march and head to the Digicel Premiership in 2015.

Thanks to the Vincentians’ input, Rendezvous won Division three in 2012, thus gaining promotion to Division Two last year. (RT)
