Vincentian pairs get trounced on NORCECA Beach Volleyball circuit

The male and female pairs representing St Vincent and the Grenadines at the ninth leg of the 2013 NORCECA Beach Volleyball circuit at Pigeon Point in St Lucia were no match for their opponents.{{more}}

The team of Cassius Franklyn and Kemual Lee lost all three matches, so too did the female pair of Nikita Campbell and Shannique de Shong.

Franklyn and Lee were trampled by Andrew Hitchey and the bean pole Ryan Vandenburg from Canada-A: 2-0 (21-7, 21-9) and were also laced by the Dominican Republic’s Luis Castillo and William Sanchez 2-0 (21-13, 21-11).

The Vincentian men also lost out to the USA-B team, comprising David Mc Kensie and Austin Rester 2-0 (21-9, 21-9).

There was no respite for them in the consolation match, as the Aruban duo of Mitchell Daniel and Eraganell de Cuba disposed of Franklyn and Lee, 21-9, 21-9.

The tale was similarly scripted for the females, as they lost by 2-0 margins in the pool phase of the tournament.

Campbell and de Shong crashed to Claudia Seguin and Brandie Wilkerson of Canada-A, 2-0 (21-12, 21-6) and to Trinidad and Tobago’s Nancy Joseph and Ayanna Dyette 2-0 (21-11, 21-10).

In their final match of Pool B, the Vincentian ladies were thrashed by USA-B’s Sarah Day and Kaitlin Nielsen – 21- 9, 21-9.

The Vincentians’ only consolation was their win 2-0 (21- 13, 21-16), over Grenada’s Thornia Williams and Renisha Stafford, as they contested the thirteenth and fifteenth places.

The tournament, which saw participation by sixteen male teams and fifteen female pairs ended last Sunday.

Taking the male category was the USA pair of David Mc Kensie and Austin Rester, while the female segment was won by Americans Heather Hughes and Lane Carico.(RT)
