The tournament, which is being hosted by the Grassroot Tennis Club for the third year, will have the regular categories: Under-6, Under-8, Under-10, Under-12 and Under-14 .

It is also expected that the tournament would open doors for sub regional competition, namely from Grenada and St Lucia.

In launching the tournament, director of the Grassroot Tennis Club Grant Connell told SEARCHLIGHT that the idea behind the reintroduction of the Under-21 category, was prompted by the fact that there are players, both regionally and internationally, who have recently left the Under-18 category and still need to compete.

“ …We are indeed grateful to Leroy Edwards of SVG General Services Limited for his great support, and he being an avid Squash player and past sub-regional champion, has rallied for the unity of the OECS through sports, hence his tournament leading the way opening to the islands of the OECS”, Connell said.

“….We will start with two… It’s all great for the development of tennis, and the numbers and increased categories, we will seek the use of the National Tennis Centre at Villa, given that is the home of tennis in St Vincent and the Grenadines…We are very proud of it and it must be used…. I trust the new president will welcome the idea”, Connell stated.

The SVG General Christmas Tournament has been the main Junior Tennis Tournament at that time of year for the past two years. (RT)
