Owia Tape ball Cricket Competition concludes Sunday

The final of the Carib Beer Owia Tape ball Cricket Competition takes place this Sunday at the London Playing Field.{{more}}

But before that, the finalists will be decided when the semi-finals are convened on Saturday at the same venue.

From 11 a.m. on Saturday, Pent House battles Hoytes in a quest to play in the title match; likewise, Papa Grand and South Rivers engage each other from 2:30 p.m. that same day. The four earned the right for a shot at the title when they came out victorious in the quarter finals last weekend.

Hoytes eeked out a one- wicket win over West Side. Batting first, West Side made 72; Marlon Baptiste got 3 for 19, bowling for Hoytes.

In response, Hoytes crossed the line at 73 for 9. National Under-15 cricket guided them home with 30 not out. Shem Laborde was the pick of West Side’s bowling with 3 for 7.

Meanwhile, Pent House outdid Overland by 56 runs.

Pent House made 87, as Oneil Thomas took 4 for 21 and Marlon Da Souza – 3 for 19.

But Overland were dismissed for 31, unravelled by the bowling of Kurton Lavia with 3 for 7 and Dwayne Nanton – 3 for 17.

Also in reaching the semi finals, Papa Grand defeated Colombian Links by eight wickets.

Drumo Toney with 3 for 5, engineered Colombian Links’ total of 61 all out.

Papa Grand then got to 64 for 2; Dean Browne hit 22.

And, South Rivers recorded a 55-run win over Owia.

Led by Gidron Pope with 38, South Rivers posted 100 for 9 from their 20 overs. Deswayne Williams pocketed 4 for 16, bowling for Owia.

At their turn, Owia fell for 45. Westrick Strough – 4 for 7 and Davidson Lavia – 3 for 34 combined to lead their team to the last four. (RT)
