Bailey was one of four persons who were returned to the executive unopposed, when the NOC held its General Meeting and elections last Monday at the Xpert Computer Centre conference room.

Bailey, president of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cycling Union, is on his fourth successive term as president of the local Olympic body.

Not surprised at being re-elected, Bailey told SEARCHLIGHT that several factors contributed to the affiliates placing confidence in his leadership of the NOC.

He listed, “humility, honesty and hard work”, as being the hallmark of his longstanding service to the organization.

“…. But it has not been all about me, as over the years, we have had good executives. I must single out the work of Keith Joseph, our general secretary, who has helped carry the NOC with his knowledge and hard work”, Bailey commented.

Bailey noted that with the availability of funds from the International Olympic Committee, Olympic Solidarity and the Pan American Sports Organisation, they were able to carry many of the programmes without many financial headaches.

Bailey, who was one the five founding members of the then National Olympic Association, and the lone person still in an administrative capacity in the local Olympic movement, said his biggest wish is for St Vincent and the Grenadines to begin to haul in medals at international meets and competitions.

Also getting a firm stamp of approval were Wayne Williams – vice president; Keith Joseph – general secretary and Jacintha Ballantyne – treasurer, who were all returned unopposed.

Shaun Young was returned as assistant secretary treasurer, but had to contend with a 9-3 challenge from Conrad Simon.
