The 10-member team, which leaves here October 4, will contest category two of the festival, which is a mixture of fun and serious. This is the second occasion on which Vets will be participating in a festival of this nature, having done so in 2000 in Hawaii.

The Vets team comprises Marva George, Zemora Johnson, La Fern Young, Adonna Hazell, Lolita Charles, Cecelia Jones, Josette Cambridge, Anna Philips, Ruth Knights – umpire and Doris Mc Intosh – manager.

In an interview last Tuesday, Knights told SEARCHLIGHT that since taking up the challenge to be part of the festival this year, the team has been doing its own fund-raising, but has also received some other assistance from firms and individuals.

She said the Vets Sports Club will welcome any assistance that can be given prior to its departure.

The Vets Sports Club began as team in 1987, but became a full-fledged club in 1994. The club was founded by the late Marlene Arthur.

Reports are that the Maple Club will also be making the San Diego trip, to be part of the 15th edition of the Golden Oldies World Netball Festival, which is geared for persons over the age of 35 years.(RT)
