Through the Tennis for Hope initiative, the club will host a one-day competition at its base at Murray’s Road, on Sunday October 20. The competition is geared at novices, and all proceeds from the competition will go to the St Vincent and the Grenadines Medical Association.

Head of the GTC Grant Connell said that his club will be playing its role for another year, as they see the need to keep such an awareness alive, especially among men.

He said they will be playing with pink balls and most of the attire for the competition will be pink.

Connell also stated that the GTC family will be visible on Friday, October 18, when the association stages its annual “Pink Cap City Walk”. The walk is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. at Heritage Square and will proceed along Bay Street, turning on Higginson Street, then on to Back Street and returning to Heritage Square, where a rally will be held.

Meanwhile, president of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Medical Association Dr Rosalind Ambrose said that the Pink Cap City Walk is one way of sensitizing the public on breast cancer.

She disclosed that the incidence of the disease in St Vincent and the Grenadines is close to that of the global trend, which is one in every nine women.

Ambrose, however, reiterated that it is not all about women, as men too are becoming stricken with breast cancer.

Other activities are slated for October, Breast Cancer Month.

Friday, October 4 is dubbed “Pink Day”. On that day, an array of things pink will be sold by members of the SVG Medical Association. The sale and awareness campaign will take place under the Singer Gallery in Kingstown, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

October 12 is set aside for the staging of the Sir Arnott Cato Symposium.

The Medical Association, in conjunction with the Ministry of Education, will on October 16 and 17 host a college and career exhibition at the Methodist Church Hall in Kingstown.(RT)
