Kingstown off in defence of masters’ cricket title

Champions of the SVG Masters T-20 Cricket Competition for the last two years, LOG Enterprises Kingstown made a winning start in defence of their title, when they stopped Sion Hill by 11 runs last Sunday, at the Buccament Playing Field, at the start of the 2013 competition.{{more}}

Kingstown were dismissed for 118 from 16 overs. Joseph Carrington 29; Winsbert Springer 23 and Joseph Medford 23, were the principal scorers.

Bowling for Sion Hill, Augustine Victory took 3 for 28, Andrew Bramble 3 for 19 and Gary Rodriguez 2 for 41.

Sion Hill’s response ended at 107 for 9 from their 20 overs. Augustine Victory top scored with 30.

Winsbert Springer had 2 for 11, bowling for Kingstown.

Also at the Buccament Bay Playing Field, St Vincent Cooperative Bank P’tani defeated Cato’s Heavy Equipment Glamorgan by 19 runs.

P’tani scored 109 for 8 off 15 overs, as the match was reduced to 15 overs maximum due to rain.

Isaac Haywood hit 31; Cassius Welcome 30 and Alfred Mc Kenzie 22 stayed their team’s innings.

The main wicket takers for Glamorgan were Gregory Brewster, 3 for 6, Augustus Mofford, 2 for 24 and Everad John, 2 for 22.

Glamorgan responded with 90 for 9 from their 15 overs; Errol Paul scored 30.

Elvis Woods had 2 for 17, Cassius Welcome 2 for 11 and Isaac Haywood 2 for 12, to lead their team’s bowling attack.

And, one former champion, RSVG Police, were stifled by North Leeward at the Petit Bordel Playing Field.

In a tense finish, North Leeward trumped by one wicket, with one ball to spare.

RSVG Police posted 176 for 7 from their 20 overs.

Jeffrey Laborde was at home, as he notched up 59 and Gosnel Cupid blasted 51.

Jamal Jeffrey was the pick of North Leeward’s bowling, as he grabbed 3 for 18.

In the run chase, North Leeward crossed the line at 177 for 9 in 19.5 overs. Johnney Hendrickson made 40, Conroy Ryan 27 not out and Lennox Douglas 25.

Parnel Browne grabbed 4 for 40, bowling for RSVG Police.(RT)
