Avenues looking for four straight

As the 2013 National Club Football championships get ready to set off, Paul’s Avenue based club Avenues, which is into its 45th year of existence, will be looking to extend its reign on the premier division.{{more}}

Avenues has been the undisputed champion for the past three seasons – capturing three consecutive titles: 2009-2010, 2011 and 2012.

More so, the club has maintained an unbeaten run.

When the championships open, Avenues will head up Group A of the premier division.

Also stashed in the group are 2012 first division runner-up Sion Hill, along with Prospect, Chelsea, Je Belle, Bequia, Park Side Rollers and K & R Strikers.

BESCO Pastures, last year’s second place, heads Group B, which also has Stingers, Richland Park Pride and Joy — the 2012 first division winners, Layou, System 3, Hope International, North Leeward and Toni Stores Jugglers.

Apart from the premier division, there will be a first division, an Under-15 and female divisions.

Thus far, some teams in the first division have been allocated spots.

Avenues, System 3, Chelsea, Volcanoes, Green Hill, Gunners and Roxdale, have been bagged in Group A, while in Group B are DESCO, Doves, Roseans, Hill Side, Coastguard, Richmond Hill and Greiggs.

Indications are that more teams will be added to the list of first division entrants.

The organizing committee of the national club championships is feverishly fine tuning arrangements with the National Sports Council to have the use of the Sion Hill Playing Field, the Calliaqua Playing Field, the Campden Park Playing Field, Clive Tannis Playing Field in Bequia, the Layou Playing Field and the Arnos Vale Two facility.

The newly commissioned Park Hill Playing Field and the Victoria Park, which are under the aegis of the National Lotteries Authority, are also earmarked as venues for the championships.(RT)
