Novice get scolded by Simple Boyz in TBPO opener

CGM Novice, the defending champions of the National Lotteries Authority Top Belair Progressive Organisation Twenty/20 softball cricket competition, were shell-shocked by Gairy’s Construction Simple Boyz,{{more}} during the soft opening of the 2013 edition of the competition, last Saturday afternoon at the Dauphine Playing Field.

Novice were shot out for 80; Roderick John top scored with 50.

Casmond Walters packed in 3 for 12; Eldon Morris, 2 for 10 and Travis Cumberbatch, 2 for 18.

But Simple Boyz had to work for the win, as they crawled to 84 for 8.

Bowling for Novice, Roderick John took 3 for 26 and Kimani Thomas, 2 for 8.

Also in winners’ row were Sea Operations Nar Fren Dem and 2012 losing finalists Gomea Bombers.

Nar Fren Dem outplayed Georgie Valley Saints by 117 runs.

Zimroy Humphrey struck 89 not out and Kenford Collins, 29, as Nar Fren Dem posted 193 for 6 from their allotted 20 overs.

Kareem Cumberbatch was Georgie Valley Saints’ most successful bowler with 3 for 11.

In their turn at the crease, Georgie Valley Saints were dismissed for 76, undone by the bowling of Glenford Woodley, 3 for 14; Travis Peters, 2 for 15 and Brent Lavia, 2 for 7.

Meanwhile, Gomea Bombers earned a two-wicket win at the expense of Bank of SVG All Stars.

Newbornne Joseph, 47 and Kenny Stapleton, 26, pushed All Stars to 138 for 6 from their 20 overs.

Gomea Bombers responded with 139 for 8, led by Ovando O Brien’s 58 and Benny Cunningham’s 42.

Desmond Bramble grabbed 3 for 9, including a hat trick and Earl Pope, 2 for 24, but they could not stop Gomea Bombers from crossing the line, with two wickets in hand. (RT)
