SVGTT holding try-outs for OECS Senior Caribbean Championships

The St Vincent and the Grenadines Table Tennis Association (SVGTTA) is currently making plans to participate in the annual Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Table Tennis Championships in St Lucia from August 23rd to August 25th, 2013, and the Senior Caribbean Championships August 26th to September 1st, 2013.{{more}} This country’s last participation in the OECS Championships was in 2011, when the SVGTTA hosted the event and captured the men’s open singles and doubles titles. This would be the first time the Senior Caribbean Championships is played in the OECS.

Trials for the selection of male and female teams are taking place at the Girl Guides Headquarters, Kingstown Park. The SVGTTA will be hoping to field a team of five males, three females, two officials (manager and coach) also one Under-21 player. Selection would be based on a combination of performance, aptitude and attitude.

The Association is gearing up to hold its biggest local Business Houses tournament ever in September, 2013. This tournament will take place from the September 9th to September 20th, 2013, at the newly built West St George Secondary School in Belair. At this tournament, no former or present national players are allowed to play. This is to help make the matches among participants of the respective business houses more evenly contested. A business house can register a maximum of three teams per gender. Registered players would allow them to participate in the Teams, Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles categories. A business house can also join with another to form a team, but that team must share a single name.

Matches in the Business Houses Tournament will be played at night from 7 p.m.
