Simple Boyz evade Police to take Clinchers Softball loot

Gairy Construction Simple Boys made it easy last Sunday when they claimed the St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Co-operative Credit Union Clinchers T-20 softball competition,{{more}} beating RSVG Police by 51 runs in the final at the Richland Park Oval.

Simple Boyz, inserted by RSVG Police, at the half-way mark were 47 for 1; but the pair of Desron Maloney and Eldon Morris installed the turbo charge on the innings, as they motored on for the second wicket.

Maloney struck 71, which included seven sixes and three fours and Morris hit 58, with five sixes and two fours. They both fell with the score at 144. Simple Boyz then scored 123 runs off the last 10 overs.

RSVG Police, hoping to hold their own when they got a chance to respond, never got going and were restricted to 119 for 6 from their maximum 20 overs.

Danson Andrews hit 29 not out and Salvan Browne, 26, as Simple Boyz enjoyed the moment most.

In the third place play-off earlier in the day, Sting Power Nice Radio Clinchers beat CGM Gallagher Novice by five wickets.

For Novice, batting first, portly Sydney Campbell cracked 65 and Ruel Williams scored 37, to stitch up their team’s innings of 141 from their 20 overs. Campbell struck seven sixes and three fours, while Williams hit five sixes.

Clinchers were taken to victory through the efforts of Oheyon Toby, 55, and Javar Caine, 42, to win in 18.1 overs. Toby struck five sixes and four fours, while Caine counted four sixes and three fours.

Simple Boyz collected $1,500 for winning the title, while runners-up RSVG Police earned $1,000; third place went to Clinchers, $800, and Novice got $400 for finishing fourth.

In the closing ceremony which followed, Desron Spring of Clinchers was the top run scorer with 248. Peter Richards, also of Clinchers, was the top wicket taker with 18 scalps.

Desron Maloney was the competition’s top six-hitter, while leading spectators, as well as the lone ball boy Omar Williams all received some token of recognition.
