Edwards, from the central leeward town of Barrouallie, will be part of the St Vincent and the Grenadines contingent to contest the 2013 edition of the CBN/National Lotteries Authority Windward Islands Schools’ Games.

For Edwards, it is an opportunity he has desired for the past three years.

“I tried three years ago, the year before and last year, but never got through. This is my year, as I have finally made it”, Edwards said with some satisfaction.

Edwards, one of the budding young talents coming to the fore, has represented Barrouallie in national Under-17 and senior inter community league competitions, but has never gained national selection.

“It is an honour to play for my country, as I tried before to make the national Under-17 team, but did not get through,” Edwards said.

One of the specialist footballers selected to the St Vincent and the Grenadines team for the Windward Islands Games, which will be hosted here from July 27 to August 4, Edwards wants to play a pivotal role in helping the country lift the football title.

Edwards is aware that he has been identified as one of the key players in the St Vincent and the Grenadines’ set-up.

“… I really want to do well for myself and for my country,” Edwards stated.

One of four Vincentians who will be heading to Barbados to be part of the regional Digicel Kick Start camp, Edwards is also looking forward to being among those who will be selected to go to England for training.

Edwards, who will enter Form Five at the start of the new academic year, has Argentine and Barcelona star player, Lionel Messi, along with his school and club mate Oalex Anderson, as his favourite players.

Similar to many other young footballers, Edwards wants to emulate Messi.(RT)
