Vincentians in Antigua prop up Under-23 netballers

St Vincent and the Grenadines’ 14th victory in the ECCB/OECS Under-23 Netball tournament, was partly due to the overwhelming support by Vincentians living in Antigua and Barbuda.{{more}}

Expressing that view to SEARCHLIGHT was team captain Ruth Ann Williams, soon after the team arrived from Antigua last Friday morning.

“…When we first went there, there weren’t many persons coming around, but afterwards, word got out and we got a lot of support…They came to every game, they carried a flag with pride, they motivated us. Even when we were little down mentally, it prepared us for the games, because we knew that somebody is going to be there to say come on, come on,” Williams said, with a smile of gratitude.

Williams noted that the support was wide-ranging.

“… They took care of us by giving us meals, provided drinks for games and ensured that after the end of every game, we had a little tour of the place… we felt that we were home away from home, ….We were very appreciative of it all,” the team captain recalled.

Also saying thanks to the Vincentians in Antigua and Barbuda, was manager of the team Natasha Stapleton and president of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Netball Association Dellarice Duncan.

Stapleton singled out Wendell Robinson as being the person who was at the forefront of the hospitable treatment the team received.

Stapleton said that adding another lien on the tournament was a good gift for the Vincentians in Antigua who supported them throughout.

St Vincent and the Grenadines played unbeaten in the tournament and captured the best defending team award.

The players and team management, on arrival back home, were given a short motorcade through the streets of Kingstown last Friday morning.(RT)
