Mary Ann Frederick stands tall in OECS Under-23 netball
Vincentian netballer, Mary-Ann Frederick has been named the Most Valuable Player in the 23rd edition of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank/ Organisation of Caribbean States Under-23 netball tournament.{{more}}
The bean pole Frederick, who stands six feet three inches tall, also copped the Top Shooter award, as well as the Most Valuable Player award for the St Vincent and the Grenadines.
Facing Montserrat, Frederick poured in a whopping 91 goals, which ranks among the highest individual tally in the history of the tournament, which began in 1991.
Her input saw St Vincent and the Grenadines pound their opponents 101-3, also another ranked feat in the tournamentâs annals.
Frederick is seen as the replacement for her local netball idol, former ace national shooter, Skiddy Francis-Crick.
Currently enrolled at the Mc Cook Community College in Nebraska, USA, on a basketball scholarship, Frederick said that her stint thus far is helping her all round.
â⦠It is really helping me a lot, because I did well in the netball tournament all the way⦠It is a transfer from netball to basketball, so it really helping out a lot and I am really having a good time there,â Frederick said.
Frederick revealed that she has to register 200 shots each day, as part of her routine at the Mc Cook Community College. This, she said, positively affected her accuracy in the recent Under-23 netball tournament.
And, with another two years of eligibility at this level, Frederick does not have any plans to let up, as she wants to see more titles come St Vincent and the Grenadinesâ way.
Frederick, along with Delonie Sam, Ruth Ann Williams, Naomi Williams, Shanice Daniel and Miranda Spencer are the six members of this yearâs winning combination who are eligible for the 2014 tournament, which is set for St Lucia.
Those who went out on a winning note after several years of representation at the Under-23 level are Roshel Franklyn, Bownie Allicott, Shannique de Shong and Shellisa Davis.(RT)
