The 10-day technical course, which commenced on Monday, is being conducted by Irishman Chris Kilmurray.

Among the topics to be looked at are the safety aspects of coaching, risk assessment, as well as planning of training sessions.

Participants will also be tutored about BMX and mountain bike equipment.

Kilmurray, who is still an active mountain biker in his adopted home of France, told SEARCHLIGHT that he expects to bring his years of coaching and his firsthand experience as a cyclist to bear on the course.

“I try to test out all of the training ideas on myself before I give them to my athletes,” Kilmurray quipped.

Kilmurray has been an International Cycling Union expert for the past two years and has been involved in full coaching since 2009.

He began his competitive mountain bike sojourn in 1999.

Meanwhile, general secretary of the National Olympic Committee Keith Joseph noted that the 10-day course came at an opportune time, as several cyclists from the Barrouallie area have taken preference to the BMX.

He reminded those present that St Vincent and the Grenadines has been offered a BMX track.(RT)
