SVGFF to hold presentation ceremony soon

Although an exact date has not been set, the long-awaited presentation ceremony for the 2012 National Club Football Championships will be held sometime after July 14.{{more}}

That assurance has come from general secretary of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation Trevor Huggins.

The SVGFF’s general secretary told SEARCHLIGHT that the presentation would be staged on the return of president Vennold Coombs, who is in Turkey as part of the FIFA Under-20 men’s world cup organising committee.

Huggins disclosed that Coombs should be back by July 14, and further pointed out that the SVGFF is in the process of negotiating a new three-year contract with the National Lotteries Authority.

Huggins further noted: “We haven’t set the date yet… We are waiting on the National Lotteries for the money for the National Club Championship… We are supposed to have negotiations with them sometime”.

He said that once the negotiations are locked down, and funds are procured, the SVGFF would proceed with the presentation of the prize monies and other awards.

The clubs affected in the delay are the premier division winners, Avenues United, second placed BESCO Pastures and third placed, Layou.

Also awaiting their prize monies are first division champions Richland Park Pride and Joy and runner-up Sion Hill.

The National Club Championship was completed December 16, last year.

Coombs, in an earlier interview with SEARCHLIGHT, stated that the SVGFF will hold one presentation ceremony for the 2012 National Club Championship and the Inter Community/League competition.

The latter was completed on May 5.(RT)
