SVGCA fires back
Faced with a barrage of criticisms recently, in both the print and electronic media, over its administration of the sport of cricket here, the executive of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association (SVGCA) has responded with a perspective of its own.{{more}}
Many persons have been lambasting the association for its handling of the local competitions and other developmental programmes.
But the SVGCA, last Wednesday, issued a press release praising the operations of the national elected body.
According to the release, âThis year the SVGCA will re-define its operational plan for the period 2014 to 2016, revise its constitution, re-examine the structure of cricket in the country, incorporate the SVG CA as a body corporate, and adopt a new relationship with its stakeholders and sponsorsâ.
The release noted that the above mentioned issues will go before the next general meeting of the SVGCA, for discussion and final agreement.
The release, penned by second vice president of the SVGCA Denis Byam, confirmed that efforts would be made to enhance the associationâs website.
âOf particular interest is the revamping of the website of the SVGCA, providing useful and timely information to cricket enthusiasts in the country. The SVGCA intends to use its website as a major marketing tool going forwardâ, the release states.
The release quoted president of the SVGCA Julian Jack as saying that his executive spent many hours preparing for the 2013 season, and he expected that at the end of it all, it would, âbe a productive oneâ.
And, as part of the public relations strategy and damage control response, Byam wrote: âThis year the SVGCA hosted two regional four-day and ODIâs, the Windwards under fifteen, and the unofficial test and T20âs between Sri Lanka A and West Indies Aâ.
Byam, in listing the additional role of the SVGCA, wrote, âThe SVGCA also has responsibility for the administration of three WICB programmes, Kiddy Cricket and the Grassroots programme and the after school programme, all aimed at stimulating interest among young people, in the game of cricketâ.
However, persons who are close to cricket in St Vincent and the Grenadines, are expressing lack of awareness of the after school programme.
Byam revealed that the SVGCA will hold a media conference in the near future to outline its plans for the new Super 40 competition, which is scheduled for commencement in the last week in July. (RT)
