Team Rivals, Victors One share Premier Division cricket title

Team Rivals and Victors One finished level on points, resulting in both teams sharing the 2013 National Lotteries Authority Premier Division of the National Competition on the weekend at the Arnos Vale Two Playing Field.{{more}}Victors One earned first innings points, but benefitted from the bonus points system.

Seeking to repeat the hold on the title, Team Rivals went into the match with 108 points and Victors One 102, as the contest was evenly set up.

Batting first, Team Rivals were dismissed for 96, as their batsmen had to negotiate some variable bounce on a seemingly under-prepared track. Asif Hooper stood tall as he hit 43.

Keron Cottoy, 3 for 18, Ray Jordan, 2 for 13, Kenneth Dember, 2 for 19 and Norlan Williams, 2 for 21, shared up the wickets for Victors One, who then responded with 116 for 7 declared. Miles Bascombe struck a bold 37.

Bowling for Rivals, Olanzo Jackson took 4 for 36.

Team Rivals were 42 for 3, when a heavy shower forced the premature end, with both teams assured of sharing the spoils.

In the other premier division fixture, played at the Sion Hill Playing Field, Police Two gained first innings from LIME Radcliffe in a low scoring encounter, on another battlefield pitch.

Police Two were 77 all out. Richie Richard had 5 for 15, Dyke Cato, 2 for 20 and Wesrick Strough, 2 for 25.

Police Two bowlers then applied force and strangled Radcliffe’s batting, dismissed for 57. Kenroy Martin had 4 for 13, Renford Samuel 2 for 8, Rolando Wright 2 for 8, bowling for the lawmen.

Police Two, in their second innings were 134 for 9; Elmore Alexander scored 36, Donson Andrews 30 and Mc Leon Williams 27.

Dyke Cato grabbed 4 for 49, Richie Richards 2 for 17 and Andy Harper 2 for 32.

Team Rivals and Victors One tied for the top spot and Guardian General Saints finished third. (RT)
