Vincy captures gold in Barbados swim meet

Shné Joachim continued her winning ways last weekend in Barbados, when she collected two gold medals in the BASA Aquatic Centre International Invitational swim meet.{{more}}

Joachim was one of nine athletes, swimming for two clubs (Blacksands Swim Squad and Blue Marlins), who represented the St Vincent and the Grenadines Amateur Swimming Association (SVGASA), in partnership with the Bank of Nova Scotia and LIME in the meet, which ran from May 24 to 26.

Joachim won gold medals in the 50 metre and the 100 metre Breaststroke events. She also placed second in the 200m Breaststroke in the 11 to 12-year-old age category and fourth in the 50m Fly.

Nikolas Sylvester, representing Blacksands, won silver medals in the 50 and 100 metre Breaststroke events and a bronze medal in the 50m Fly. Nikolas set five personal best times.

The other swimmers competing at the event were Dorien Antrobus, Kyle Dougan, Davaughn Durham, Storm Halbich, Cruz Halbich, Alexander Joachim and Chavez Joseph.

Dorien Antrobus (in the 13 to 14-year-old category) improved upon his times in five events, while Chavez Joseph (11 to 12-year-old category) and Alexander Joachim (9 to 10 years old) set personal best times in four events. Cruz Halbich (11 to 12-year-old category) set three personal best times.

The meet featured over 380 swimmers, representing clubs from Trinidad, Grenada, St Lucia, Antigua, Barbados and St Vincent and the Grenadines.
