SVG female volleyballers place third in NORCECA Pool K

St Vincent and Grenadines finished third in the NORCECA Second Round Pool K Tournament, a qualifier to the FIVB 2014 Women’s World Championship in Italy.{{more}}

However, the Vincentians have to await the conclusion of the other pools to know if they are among the best positioned teams in the NORCECA rankings as of January 1, 2014.

The teams which lead the rankings will join the first and second places from the six pools, to head to the third round of the qualifiers.

St Vincent and the Grenadines finished behind El Salvador and host the United States Virgin Islands in Pool K, which was contested in St Croix at the Ronald “Ranche” Charles Arena.

Another consolation for the Vincentians was the award of best libero, won by Preanka Williams.

The Vincentians defeated the British Virgin Islands in the third place match 25-19, 25-23, 25-17 on Sunday evening. It was their second 3-0 whipping of the BVI in the competition, having registered a 25-19, 25-17, 25-18 win in the preliminary round of the competition.

St Vincent and the Grenadines was at the losing end, also by 3-0 margins. The USVI dumped the Vincentians 25-6, 25-17, 25-17 and went under to eventual winners — El Salvador, 25-18, 25-20, 25-19.

El Salvador defeated the USVI to take the gold medal in a hard fought five-setter — 21-25, 25-21, 17-25, 25-18, 15-9.

St Vincent and the Grenadines was represented by Nikita Campbell – Captain, Bretisha Gregg, Krystal Ralph, Andean Spring, Shaquille Brancker, Shannique de Shong, Bownie Allicott, Ladonna Woodley, Preanka Williams and Junette Young. Shaun Young travelled as coach.(RT)
