Guinness Street Football Challenge pushed back to this Wednesday

The Guinness Street football challenge will now be played tomorrow, May 29, at the Sion Hill Playing Field hard court.{{more}}

Set for last Saturday night at the same venue, organisers were forced to postpone the final because of the inclemency of the weather.

According to the organisers — the safety of the players was the key factor in the postponement.

The finals will see defending St Vincent and the Grenadines and Caribbean champions — Team Crew, battling eight other contenders for the grand purse of $5,000 and a place in the Caribbean finals to be staged here from June 20 to 22.

In tomorrow’s match, Team Crew will defend the local title against Brownstown, Legends, Double Trouble, School Yard, Highgrade; System 3, Sharpes Fc and Blues.

The eight emerged as preliminary round winners from Georgetown, Calliaqua, Greiggs, Kingstown, Campden Park, Barrouallie, North Leeward and Bequia, respectively.

The format of the finals will consist of a preliminary round, a semi-final and final.

For the preliminary round, teams will be placed in groups of three, with the winners and the best second place teams advancing to the semi-final.

The winners of the semi-finals meet in the final.
