SVG hosts 10 countries in 2013 Port Games
Ten member countries of the Association of Sports and Cultural Clubs of Caribbean Port Authorities (ASCCCPA) will converge upon St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) today, for the Annual ASCCCPA Whitsuntide Games.{{more}}
About 250 port employees are expected from Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, St Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, and host nation Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
The port employees will, from today until Monday, be engaged in a series of social, cultural, sporting, and community-based activities.
Activities sound off officially with the Opening Ceremony on Friday evening at the West St George Secondary School at Belair.
Chairman of the SVG Port Authority Edwin Snagg and Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves are scheduled to deliver addresses.
The Annual General Meeting of the Association of Sports and Cultural Clubs of Caribbean Port Authorities (ASCCCPA) was held yesterday.
At yesterdayâs meeting, reports from the SVG Port Authority Sports Club, and the host country for the 2014 Port Games were tabled. Issues relevant to continued development of ASCCCPA were also discussed.
Tomorrow, May 18, the various delegations will engage in shopping in downtown Kingstown, followed by a visit to the Argyle international airport site, followed by a beach picnic and domino competition.
The Arnos Vale Sports Complex will be the scene of action on Sunday, after the church service. The various delegations will challenge each other in a variety of sporting events, including athletics.
It will, however, not be just fun and games for the delegations, as on Monday morning, they will engage in a community project, with the beautification of the bus-stand near the Geest shed in Kingstown.
A visit to the Botanic Gardens and a barbecue at the Cruise Ship Terminal will round off the activities for the 2013 Annual ASCCCPA Whitsuntide Games.
