Both entities took the starter’s command last Tuesday, when the sponsorship cheque for $900 was handed over by Alpian Toney, manager of Facey Trading, to members of the SVG Cycling Union.

The combination will ride off this Sunday, May 19, with the staging of the 50-mile road race.

Originally set for last Sunday, the race was postponed because of the funeral of former long distance athlete and national female footballer Lisa Daniel.

Sunday’s race will be in four categories.

The race begins at 2 p.m. at the SVG Automotive Gas Station on Tyrell Street and heads to Bridgetown in Biabou. Cyclists will return to the roundabout in Arnos Vale then back to Bridgetown and finish at Sion Hill.

Covering this distance will be category one riders with road bikes.

The category two road bikers, as well as the mountain bikers and female cyclists, will do one lap of the circuit, a distance of 26 miles.

Trophies and cash awards will be presented to the top finishers in each of the categories. (RT)
