Teams taking up positions in Premier Division race

Defending champions Team Rivals, LIME Radcliffe and Guardian General Saints, all earned full points in last weekend’s matches of the National Lotteries Authority Premier Division.{{more}}

Rivals won by an innings and 58 runs over Carl Joseph Law Chambers ASCO at the Arnos Vale Two Playing Field.

Batting first, ASCO, who have not yet been called to the bar this season, were dismissed for 83. Kimali Williams had 5 for 5 and Ronniel Jeffrey 3 for 2, bowling for Rivals.

Solid batting by Rivals, which saw Ronniel Jeffrey making 60, Casmond Walters 47 and Marvin Small 44, pushed them to 235 all out. Desron Maloney had 3 for 52 and Andre Hunte 2 for 30.

ASCO’s second innings stopped at 94, in another submission. Jenry Ollivierre was the only one to present much evidence with the bat, as he hit 51. Asif Hooper took 4 for 9 and Ronniel Jeffery 2 for 18, to lead Rivals’ wicket takers.

The win pushed Rivals’ points tally to 81 from four matches, thus leading the points table, while ASCO sits one from the bottom on 34 points from five matches.

At the main Arnos Vale venue, Radcliffe won by an innings and 4 runs over the News Spartans.

Batting first, Spartans made 120 all out; Andy Harper took 3 for 33 and Wesrick Strough 3 for 38.

Radcliffe replied with 237 for 6 declared. Lindon James cracked 118 and Drumo Toney scored 39 not out. Dawnley Grant took 2 for 66, to be Spartans’ top bowler.

Spartans, in their second innings, made 113. Dawnley Joseph 30 not out, Dean Browne captured 3 for 15 and Dellorn Johnson 3 for 20.

Radcliffe carried their points to 39 from three matches, to place them in fifth position. Radcliffe has one point more than Spartans, who have played four matches.

Saints reignited their run in the competition, after their earlier heavy losses, when they defeated Police Two by eight wickets at the Sion Hill Playing Field.

Police Two could only come up with 130 all out. Mohammed Lavia top scored with 48 not out. Kenroy Peters grabbed 4 for 18 and Romario Bibby 3 for 33.

Saints responded with 154 all out; Sunil Ambris led their batting with 45. Rolando Wright snared 4 for 51, but Police Two’s second innings fared worse, as they ended at 114. Donson Andrews, a former Victors One player, top scored with 67 not out.

They were destroyed by Rommel Currency who bagged 5 for 32 and Kenroy Peters 4 for 34.

Saints reached 96 for 2, thus regaining some pride in the competition. Rickford Walker was there at the end with 51 not out.

Saints now have 64 points from five matches, which put them in position number three in the eight team table.

Police Two has 49 points from five matches and holds down the fourth spot. (RT)
