The course, put on by the SVG Cycling Union, saw participants cycling from the Langley Park gap to Touroma in the north, then back to Black Point, a distance of eight miles.

Bailey did the five laps in a time of 2 hours 03 minutes 37.72 seconds. He made minced meat of the field, filleting the main contenders about one and a half laps after the start of the race.

But the main bunch caught up with Bailey on the last lap. Trailing Bailey to the finish line was Lucky Antrobus, in 2 hours 03 minutes 38.40 seconds.

Peter Durrant, who boasted before the start of the race that the table was all set for him to dine, was made to eat his words as he placed third in 2 hours 03 minutes 39.47 seconds.

Niesha Alexander took the female top place in 1 hour 5 minutes 56.29 seconds and second was Crystal Durrant in 1 hour 9 minutes 04.78 seconds. The females rode two laps of the course.

In the category two of the road bike, first was Casnel Duncan in 1 hour 20 minutes 16.19 seconds, with Martin Bollers second in 1 hour 20 minutes 16.19 seconds and third was Bradley Charles in 1 hour 26 minutes 9.4 seconds.

Steve Ollivierre copped the mountain bike category’s top prize in 1 hour 20 minutes 2.10 seconds, ahead of second placed Collin Alexander in 1 hour 20 minutes 20.94 seconds.

Shawn Chandler placed third in 1 hour 26 minutes 16.72 seconds.

Both the category two of the road bike segment and the mountain bikers did three laps of the course.

The next cycling event is scheduled for Sunday, May 12.(RT)
