Taking double awards were Demetra Fernandez, Akeil De Roche and Gabrielle Benn.

Fernandez won the Girls’ Under-8 and Under-10 singles, ahead of Alesha Culzac and Sage Bascombe respectively.

De Roche, the reigning Eastern Caribbean Boys Under-10 champion, claimed the Under-10 and Under-12 categories. He outdid Rio Connell in the Under-10 final and dispatched Miguel Francis in the Under-12 championship match.

De Roche went on to be adjudged the most improved player on show by tournament director Agostini Soleyn.

Meanwhile, Benn was in winner’s row in the Girls’ Under-12 and Under-14. She defeated Alexi Humphrey en route to both titles.

Humphrey was, however, named most improved female player in the tournament.

Other winners were Che Connell, who secured the Boys’ Under-8, with Afi Lucas, the runner-up. Richard Hoyte pocketed the Boys’ Under-14, at the expense of Arnel Horne.

Championing the Under-6 titles were the tiny tots from the Rainbow Unique Pre-School.

Mc Kellyn Ince was the winner among the boys, with the runner-up, Luke Spence.

Taking the girls’ title was Kathryn Miller, with Moriya Dallaway, second.

Soleyn, who was directing his first tournament, said that he relished the opportunity, as it was a learning experience for him.

Khir Huggins was the tournament’s referee.

Come 2014, the GTC’s Easter tournament would see the Under-16’s and Under-18’s categories being incorporated; however, they are slated to be hosted at the National Tennis Centre at Villa.

Next on the plate of the of the Grassroot Tennis Club’s menu is the return leg of the Grenadines Cup, the symbol of supremacy between the GTC and the Mustique Tennis Club.(RT)
