SVG winless in Windwards U-15 cricket tournament

Host country St Vincent and the Grenadines is having a wretched time in the National Lotteries Authority Windwards Under-15 50-over cricket tournament, as they have lost all four matches thus far.{{more}}

In the two rounds of competition among the four islands, St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) has lost to St Lucia twice, and Grenada and Dominica once.

SVG went under to St Lucia for the second time last Sunday at Arnos Vale Two.

Erwin Williams hit 50 and there were 49 extras, as the host made 180 for 8 from their 50 overs.

Ned Modeste took 4 for 40 and Stuart Calderon 2 for 23.

St Lucia in response, reached 185 for 7 from 39. 4 overs, led by 42 not out from Johnell Eugene and 25 each from Denzel James and Youlan Lamotugen. Erwin Williams took 3 for 42, bowling for the Vincentians.

When both teams met last Thursday at Arnos Vale one, St Lucia batted first and posted 230 for 4 from their allotted 50 overs; Nick Elibox – 83, Johnell Eugene — 39 not out ; Dane Edwards — 31 Denzil James 24 not out.

Gregory Wyllie took 2 for 21 for the Vincentians, who were then dismissed for 178 in 48.4 overs. Shane Roberts knocked 78 not out, which included eight fours and two sixes; Dellorn Douglas — 21. Stuart Calderon picked up 5 for 37, as St Lucian won by 52 runs.

In the Vincentians’ opening match last Wednesday against Dominica at Arnos Vale One, Dellorn Douglas hit 63 to lead St Vincent and the Grenadines to 135 all out in 45.1 overs.

Bowling for Dominica, Lee Louisy grabbed 3 for 37 and Devante Williams — 2 for 14.

In response, the Dominicans reached 137 for 3 from 33.1 overs; Alec Athanaze made 27 not out.

And, last Saturday at Arnos Vale Two, the batting highs and lows of this year’s edition were recorded.

Grenada compiled the highest team total thus far, 247 for 8 from their 50 overs, with Emmanuel Stewart making the highest individual total-87, whilst the Vincentians conceded 49 extras.

Gregory Wyllie took 3 for 37 and Shane Roberts 2 for 50.

The Vincentians were skittled out for the lowest team total, 73 in 29.2 overs. Narun Sighn bagged 6 for 17.

The last throws of the dice for the Vincentians see them meeting Dominica at Arnos Vale Two today Tuesday and tomorrow Wednesday, versus Grenada at Arnos Vale One.

The remainder of the fixture pits St Lucia against Grenada at Arnos Vale One today and tomorrow, St Lucia and Dominica face off at Arnos Vale Two.

Following four rounds of matches, Dominica leads the standings with 8 points, St Lucia and Grenada are both on 4 points and St Vincent and the Grenadines have no points. (RT)
