ASCO firms up legal sponsorship

The law firm of Carl Joseph has made the participation of the Ashburton Sports and Cultural Organisation (ASCO) cricket team in the 2013 National Lotteries Authority premier division competition many dollars easier.{{more}}

Last Friday, Joseph handed over the sponsorship cheque to president of ASCO Denisford Foster.

The presentation was witnessed by vice captain of the team and St Vincent and the Grenadines T-20 opening batsman Desron Maloney, as well as Desiann Laborde, a member of ASCO and the current national Under-16 netball team captain.

The cricket outfit will henceforth be known as Carl Joseph Chambers’ ASCO.

Joseph, who lives in the community, said he has always been supportive of ventures undertaken by groups in the area. And, with cricket being part of his personal passion, sponsorship of ASCO came as a given.

“I love the game and I just like to see youngsters develop and I will always offer my help to the youngsters when I can,” Joseph said.

In accepting the cheque, Foster thanked Joseph for his sponsorship and said: “Your investment is timely and worthwhile and you can be certain that we will maximize your contribution.”

ASCO topped the First Division of the 2011 national cricket competition and was promoted to the Premier Division last year.

Apart from cricket, ASCO participates in the national netball club tournament, put on by the St Vincent and the Grenadines Netball Association.

On its own, ASCO runs an annual netball competition, which has been in existence for 20 years, as well as a softball cricket competition.

ASCO’s netball competition is one of the bigger netball activities in St Vincent and the Grenadines — second only to the national tournament, in terms of the number of participating teams.

In the 2012 ASCO competition, 20 teams participated.

Also the club organizes other cultural and social activities within the Ashburton community and its environs.
