Repairs to pavilions coming soon
The pavilions at the Clive Tannis Playing Field in Bequia and the Campden Park Playing Field, which are in need of repair, will soon be renovated.{{more}}
This assurance has come from Minister of Sport Cecil McKie, who confirmed to SEARCHLIGHT Sunday that both facilities are part of the budgetary proposals for the next financial year.
Mc Kie said the Campden Park upgrade will cost $420,000, which involves the work on the pavilion and perimeter fencing. He said $200,000 is allocated for 2013 and the remaining $220,000 in 2014.
The repaior of the Clive Tannis Playing field pavilion will cost $140,000 –allocated to be spent in 2013.
McKie said that although repair of the facilities was budgeted for, he and a team of officials were last Saturday on a needs assessment tour of sporting facilities, including the hard courts on the mainland.
At the opening of the All Leeward football competition on January 5 at the Campden Park Playing Field, organisers lamented the dilapidated state of the pavilion and the general condition of that facility.
McKie told Parliament in May that the pavilion at the Campden Park Playing Field was in dire need of attention and referred to it as an âeyesoreâ.
Also at the commencement of the Bequia Basketball tournament last July, area representative for the Northern Grenadines Dr Godwin Friday pleaded with the authorities to attend to the pavilion at the Clive Tannis Playing Field, which, he said was posing a threat to users because of the detached roofing.
