“The 2013 season promises to be a better and bigger tournament, where there will be an Under-16 and a Premier division,” he explained.

For several years, Bequia has been carrying out a vibrant youth development programme, under the guidance of Ralph Stowe.

And Dominique noted that capturing the youngsters at school age is vital in providing a platform for their later football development.

He revealed that one of the major changes will be a knockout phase — home and away format —, which will determine the winner of the premiership.

He also said that the small-goal competition, introduced this year and played under the lights at the Clive Tannis hard court on the independence weekend, was a resounding success, and will be calendared in 2013.

The BFA president said his organisation plans to start the 2013 tournament before the carnival season in June.

The 2012 tournament, which concluded recently, saw the participation of Young Warriors, Diamond United, Ball Lovers, Bequia FC, Gabba Boys, Basketball United, Full Force, Ghetto Stars and Masters FC.

Gabba Boys emerged champions, defeating Bequia FC 2-nil in the final.

Gabba Boys defeated Ball Lovers 2-nil in the semi-final; Bequia FC overcame Full Force 2-1 in the semi-final match-up. (RT)
