Spot kicks hand System 3 Barrouallie football title

System 3 lifted the Bank of SVG Barrouallie Football League title last Saturday afternoon at the Keartons Playing Field, overcoming home team Loyal Bank Topsidaz 5-4 through kicks from the penalty spot.{{more}}

The kicks were needed after both teams played to a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

And, after the first round of five kicks from the spot, the scores were still levelled at 4-4, which necessitated, sudden death kicks.

But when Topsidaz’ s captain Dorren Hamlett stepped up, his right footed shot was saved by player of the final, System 3’s goalkeeper Jovan Lynch.

Alonzo Bute did not make the same mistake as he buried his shot, to give System 3 the league’s silverware and the $1,800 winner’s purse.

Topsidaz were seeking to end the season unbeaten, having secured the knockout title, two weeks prior.

After a goalless first half, with both teams coming close to scoring, Markneil Lewis gave Topsidaz the lead in the second half.

Lewis finished off a neat lop from Dorren Hamlett, to score with his right foot from three yards out.

However, this jubilation was short-lived, as second half substitute Zenroy Lee brought parity to the proceedings when he beat Topsidaz’s goalkeeper Egan Dickson at the far post.

Lee’s goal provided a second lifeline for System 3, as they were racing against the clock.

But System 3 were decisive in the shoot-out, to Topsidaz’s demise.

Topsidaz had to settle for the second place trophy and $1,200, to add to the $500 and the trophy gained for taking the elimination competition.

Third placed Western Union Hillview received a trophy and $600.

Under-17 final

Preceding the senior final, Adare One claimed the Norrell Hull Under-17 division, with a 3-nil dismantling of System 3.

Adare One’s goal tally came through Casnell Duncan, who netted a brace, and Kyle Edwards the other.

Duncan earned himself the player of the final award.

Adare One, apart from receiving the first place trophy, earned $400. System 3 got a trophy and $200.

In earning the right to appear in Saturday’s final, Adare One saw off Hillview 4-1 and System 3 defeated Parkside Rollers 4-2 from kicks from the penalty spot, after both had played to a 2-2 tie.

Parkside Rollers took the third place trophy and $100. (RT)
