The uniforms, compliments the Rotary Club of St Vincent South, in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Scarborough of Canada, were handed over to head of the academy, Ian Sardine.

Sardine expressed his appreciation to the Rotary Club of St Vincent South. He said the donations came at an opportune time for the academy’s players.

The SVG Youth Football Academy, of which the main training base is the Grammar School Playing Field, consists of over 120 players between the ages of four and 17 years, featuring 16 junior teams

From this programme, several outfits are entered into various youth football tournaments, Under-7, Under-10 Under-13, Under-15 and Under-17, both male and female, under the System 3 banner, which is the parent body of the academy.

Players from these teams then graduate to the System 3 First Division outfit or the senior team or to other football units across St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Sardine disclosed that the academy is embarking on refurbishing the old Intermediate High School on James Street in Kingstown.

This, he said, is to facilitate afternoon classes and mentorship to the academy and System 3 members.

“We are looking at the players’ overall development, not just their football skills, but assist them in areas of need,” Sardine said.

Sardine said the academy would appreciate greatly any help in refurbishing the old Intermediate High School building. (RT)
