Buccament, in the process, dethroned the 2011 winners, the Central Leeward Secondary.

Central Leeward took the low scoring first quarter 3-2, but Buccament found their rhythm to take the second — 13-9.

It was 20-18 at the end of the third quarter, with Buccament in the ascendancy.

Buccament finally won 31-24, despite Central Leeward making a surge early in the last quarter.

But for the winners, it was not much accurate shooting, as Brianna Gloster scored 13 from her 28 attempts, while Lindisha Lewis and Rhianna Welch both scored 9 apiece from their 20 attempts each.

Carlene Douglas of Central Leeward scored 13 from her 19 attempts, to be the top shooter in the final, and Tameka Palmer was successful in 11 of 17 attempts.

Buccament’s Ronecia Phillips was voted the most valuable player in the final.

Triumphant coach Clydana Hinds told SEARCHLIGHT, following her team’s success, that it was a deserved win as “they worked really, really hard”.

Hinds said that physical education teacher at the school, Alrick Wright, worked on the conditioning of the young ladies, which she thought was vital going into the finals.

Hinds said that the win means a lot for the school.

“What it means is that we can achieve anything possible … as our motto says, what the mind can conceive, we can achieve,” Hinds said with a tinge of joy in her voice.

Preceding the senior and junior finals were the third place play-offs in both divisions.

Sandy Bay Secondary trumped the Junior third place, beating the North Union Secondary 17-13. In the Senior play off, Emmanuel High Mespo stopped Thomas Saunders Secondary, 23-14.

Deneisha Gurley of Thomas Saunders Secondary was the top goal shooter in the preliminary round, sinking 103 of her 145 attempts. (RT)
