Played in between some intermittent showers, the ladies and guys from the statutory body overcame the RSVG Police Force in a match befitting a grand finale.

NBC Radio, led by the accurate Skiddy Francis-Crick, took the first quarter 18-13.

The law officers closed in in the second quarter, but NBC was able to hold on to a slender 31-30 lead.

It was 50-48 at the end of the third quarter, with NBC Radio still in the ascendancy.

It was the final quarter that created the most excitement, as both teams bartered the goals.

But Francis-Crick and Dellarice Duncan employed the long ball strategy and, coupled with some self-imposed frustration in the RSVG Police camp, NBC Radio pulled away in the closing minutes of the match, which ended 69-63.

Francis-Crick poured in 66 of her 68 attempts and Dellarice Duncan 3 of 5.

For RSVG Police, Michelle Francis locked down 35 of her 41 attempts and Sylvonne Olliver registered 28 of her 32.

In the third place play-off, which preceded the final, Ministry of Education edged out Unicom Courts Power House 31-30.

The closing ceremony, which saw the distribution of awards and prizes, was addressed by President of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Netball Association Dellarice Duncan; Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, Sports and Culture Senator Elvis Charles; and Brand Manager for Facey Trading Alpian Toney.

Duncan expressed her satisfaction in the administration of the competition and said “Netball was the winner”.

Charles stated that the government is always a friend of netball, while Toney stated that he was pleased with the competition and was confident that his colleagues would see favour in continuing the sponsorship of the competition.

Ministry of Transport and Works was voted the most disciplined team, while the most improved player of each of the 11 teams in the competition was awarded with a trophy. (RT)
