More units enter Kiddy Cricket fold

Four new units have entered the Kiddy Cricket fold.
The four — the Prospect Community Group, the Breda of Life, the St Benedict’s Day Nursery and the School for Children with Special Needs {{more}}— were the latest recipients of the Kiddy Cricket kits at a ceremony, Monday at the Scotia Bank branch in Kingstown.

The kits include bats, stumps, balls, and cones.

Local coordinator of the Kiddy Cricket programme Stanley Hinds said the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has mandated that the programme be spread beyond the formal primary school, hence the donation to the four.

Hinds disclosed that 53 of the 66 primary schools in St Vincent and the Grenadines are engaged in the Kiddy Cricket programme.

Meanwhile, President of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association Julian Jack said he welcomes any opportunity to get involved in cricket.

Norman Cumberbatch, who spoke on behalf of Scotia Bank, said that the Kiddy Cricket Programme fits perfectly into the bank’s Bright Future campaign, as they believe that proper values and attitudes are best taught at an early age, to ensure a bright future.

Also on hand was the Windward Islands Cricket Board Territorial Development Officer Irvin Warrican.

Moraika Young, speaking on behalf of the recipients, expressed thanks to all involved in the gesture.

Under the Kiddy Cricket programme, which began in 1998, children aged six to 12 are given the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of cricket in a fun and explorative manner. (RT)
