The Vincentians opened their campaign with a 2-1 triumph over Guyana’s Golden Jaguars Sunday at the same venue.

Myron Samuel netted in the 20th minute for SVG.

But Guyana equalized on the stroke of the half, through Gregory Richardson, who scored from the penalty spot, after Vincentian defender Odanza Dennie had committed a foul in the penalty area.

Cornelius Stewart hit the winner for Vincy Heat in the 70th minute.

It was Vincy Heat’s second straight defeat of the Golden Jaguars.

Vincy Heat defeated the Guyanese 1-nil in an international friendly at the Victoria Park.

Before the Vincentians play the St Lucians tonight, Curacao and Guyana play from 6 p.m.

The Vincentians round up their campaign when they engage Curacao from 6 p.m. Thursday.

The group closes off with Guyana meeting St Lucia from 8:30 p.m.

The first and second places from Group 2 advance to the second round.

In the second round, Grenada will host Group 6, Guadeloupe will stage Group 7 while Trinidad and Tobago will host Group 8.

The top two teams from each second-round group will advance to the finals, December 3 to 16 in Antigua and Barbuda.

The host and defending champions, Jamaica, are automatic qualifiers to the finals.

The four semi-finalists will gain berths to the 2012 CONCACAF gold cup in the USA. (RT)
