The St Vincent and the Grenadines Alliance of Sports and Physical Education (SVGASPE) will on October 28 make the first step in fulfilling its mandate of providing opportunity, mentorship and leadership to void communities through sports and physical education.{{more}}

The organisation, launched last month, will partner with residents of Ottley Hall to host a family day of activities, under the theme “Sports and Culture Grow Communities”.

The day of activities is set for 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“Our intention is to unleash the pent-up talent of our youths through sports in that community,” Chair of SVGASPE Ian Hypolite told SEARCHLIGHT on Saturday.

Hypolite said Ottley Hall has been identified as one of the “underserved communities” for infusion of its community sports programming.

He added that his organisation believes that strong families translate into contributing citizens and functioning communities.

Hypolite said next week’s Sunday’s activities will be a collaborative one.

“We have collaborated with Westside Raiders, who currently orchestrate a football/soccer programme and Urban League Inc — a culture based organization, both in Ottley Hall and the Garifuna Heritage Foundation,” Hypolite said.

Hypolite further told SEARCHLIGHT that several local companies are supporting the venture.

He further said the activities, tailored for all ages, coincide with Independence celebrations. (RT)
